Professor Christy HansonChristy Hanson
Hanson is the Hubert. H. Humphrey Professor for the 2011-2012 academic year. She is currently on leave from her position as the Chief of the Infectious Diseases Division for the Office of Health, Infectious Diseases, and Nutrition (HIDN) of the Bureau for Global Health at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Her division includes the President’s Malaria Initiative, the NTD control Initiative, and the TB team. Dr. Hanson has over 15 years’ experience in international tuberculosis (TB) control with support to countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America through her previous positions with the World Health Organization, World Bank, and PATH. She has published and presented widely on various aspects of TB control. At USAID, Dr. Hanson has been the research advisor for TB. She is currently chair of the Stop TB Partnership's group for Innovative New Approaches and Tools and is a member of the Global Fund To Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria's technical review panel. Dr. Hanson has also published on the economic burden of neglected tropical diseases and has been USAID's technical and policy lead on the Agency's NTD Initiative for the past 5 years. Dr. Hanson received her MPH from the University of Minnesota, and her PhD in international health systems, with a concentration in health economics, from Johns Hopkins University.

Dr. Hanson’s independent research focuses on the dynamics between poverty, health care seeking behavior and health system response, particularly for the care of infectious diseases. She has been a guest lecturer at Georgetown University, George Washington University, Columbia University, the University of Minnesota, Washington University in St. Louis, and Johns Hopkins University.
