Faculty > Dr. Igor Tchoukarine
Igor Tchoukarine is a historian whose work is at the intersection of cultural and political history, and encompasses Southeastern, Central, and Western Europe (more specifically, Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, France, and Italy). I am at work on two books. The first examines the history of international tourism in 20th century Yugoslavia. The second explores how the space of the Adriatic Sea helped produce, within the Italian and Slavic populations on its coastline, specific identities, memories and national ideas from the early 20th to the 21st century. I have published articles and a book chapter in, respectively, Austrian History Yearbook, Études balkaniques, Études du Centre français de recherche en sciences sociales in Prague, Slovanský přehled and the volume Yugoslavia’s Sunny Side: A History of Tourism in Socialism (Central European University Press, 2010).
Courses include: Mediterranean, Baltic, Black: Seas, Identities, and History; Post-Nationalism: European Union; Tourism in the Modern Age; The Post-Ottoman Sphere; Post-Nationalism: The Post-Soviet Sphere
