FIND an Internship using
Macalester's Job and Internship Database
The Macalester Job/Internship Database contains positions submitted directly to Macalester College by organizations and alumni particularly interested in accessing Macalester students. It is especially valuable for local internships. Once you enter this database, you may also "jump" to LACN (the Liberal Arts Career Network). This is a consortium of 30 top liberal arts colleges, primarily situated on the east coast, that share job and internship postings. Although the LACN database will include quite a few Twin Cities positions, it is actually more a resource for students seeking a range of national opportunities. You should definitely get in the habit of searching both! Since they use the same Symplicity platform, the search process is identical.
ACCESS Macalester's Job and Internship Database
- Go to https://macalester-csm.symplicity.com/students
- The User Name is your Macalester email address. Your Password will automatically be assigned to you as a new student via an email from the Career Development Center. If you do not remember this, click "Forgot Password", provide your Macalester email address, and your password will be emailed to you. Once you have the password, click on the "Sign In" tab and enter the requested information. If the Macalester Job/Internship Database doesn’t accept this password, resend it to yourself, close the window or tab with this site, and reopen the Macalester Job/Internship Database before using the new password.
- You can change the assigned random password to one that is easier to remember by first clicking on "Profile" after logging in, then "Password/Preferences".
- Once you see the Home page, you are ready to explore the databases for great opportunities!
SEARCH for Internships on the
Macalester Job/Internship Database (and LACN)
- After you have logged in, click on Jobs & Internships on the top bar.
- In the drop-down box for Position Type, select Internship.
- Add any other desired search criteria, and then click Search.
- Click on postings of interest to view more information. To return to the main search page, use the green Back button near the top left of the website to avoid resetting your search criteria.
- You can choose to search by different criteria such as state and country by going back to the Jobs & Internships page and selecting the tab called Advanced Search. You can also search for specific employers using the Employers tab on the home page.
IMPROVE your search
- Less is more; the combination of one keyword and one state works well. (The keyword search covers job titles, job functions, and the text of descriptions.)
- Search all available opportunities, not just those posted by our office. Go to our extensive list of "Additional Internship Databases" to find more options.
- Consider important criteria when searching for an internship (e.g.location, duration, industry, qualifications, paid vs. unpaid, balance of what you will be doing and potential for learning, etc.).
- The fields for online applications or interview dates are not usually relevant for internships; very few organizations worry about these.
