Application and Awards: New Needs, Early Replacements
We recognize that new computing needs may arise, for which
you need a computer where one has not been installed before. For
example, your office may plan to hire a new (additional) staff member, or
a new non-tenure-track faculty member, and s/he will need a computer.
It is also possible that you may wish to replace a device that has not
yet been in service long enough to qualify for automatic replacement.
In such cases, you need to apply to the Fund for the new equipment or early replacement
and
explain the circumstances that justify your request on this form.
Decision-making. Applications for automatic
replacements are just that, automatic, and do not require a
review/approval process. Applications for computers customized beyond
the standard, for new computers, and for early replacements undergo careful evaluation.
Reviewers weigh competing needs and determine which awards should be
made. Their recommendations may be to purchase a new computer, to
recycle a better but 'previously-enjoyed' computer into the location, to
upgrade the existing computer, or to make no award. Financial realities
may prevent us from awarding all applications: the Micro Fund is
a limited College budget line, not an inexhaustible river of money.
