Awards & Criteria:

STUDENT AWARDS  ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  • PRESIDENTAL LEADERSHIP AWARD

The Presidentail Leadership award recognizes seniors for their scholarship and outstanding contributions to the Macalester community throughout their college career.

Approximately ten (10) seniors will be honored. Students must meet the following criteria for consideration of this award:

  • A currently registered senior in good academic standing
    (GPA of 3.3 is required)
  • Has made significant contributions in a variety of areas of campus life throughout their years at Macalester.
  • Has been a positive role model for the Macalester community.
  • Has worked to promote one or more of the values of the college (i.e. internationalism, multiculturalism, academic excellence, and/or civic engagement).

Please Note: All students must be currently enrolled full-time at Macalester College and be in good academic standing (GPA of 2.7 is required) to qualify for any of the following student awards:

  • DEAN OF STUDENTS AWARD

This award is presented to at least one member of each class in recognition of their efforts throughout the current academic year. Macalester College strives for academic excellence in the context of internationalism, multiculturalism, and civic engagement. The Dean of Students Award honors students who actualize the mission of the college by promoting one or more of the stated values, and by demonstrating a genuine commitment to the community through his/her service.

  • SERVANT-LEADER AWARD

This award recognizes a student whose actions are congruent with his/her own values and serve to inspire others to develop their leadership potential. Servant-Leaders exhibit outstanding leadership skills and often serve as mentors. They listen intently, demonstrate compassion, and maintain a sense of ethics and humility.

  • ANN BOLGER VISION AWARD

The Vision Award, named in honor of Ann Bolger, Director of Residential Life at Macalester from 1993 to 1999, applauds a single student leader’s ability to initiate positive organizational change or creative endeavors that contribute to the educational experience of students in a thoughtful, collaborative, and informed fashion.

ORGANIZATION AWARDS  -------------------------------------------------------------------------

  • COLLABORATION AWARD

The Collaboration Award recognizes two or more student organizations who have effectively worked together by utilizing one another’s strengths to accomplish a common goal. Together, their work has greatly impacted the organizations and the Macalester community.

  • COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD

The Community Service Award is presented to a student organization that has made a significant contribution to the Macalester community and/or the community at large.  Their contribution not only provided service to the community but created growth and development to all who participated in the event or activity.

  • EDUCATION AWARD

The Education Award is given to an organization in honor of their successful efforts to generate campus awareness of an issue. Their efforts fostered dialogue, debate, and learning within the campus community.

  • ORGANIZATIONAL GROWTH AWARD

The Organizational Award is presented to a student organization that has demonstrated remarkable internal improvement and growth in areas such as planning, goal setting, evaluation or programs, and member involvement.

  • MULTICULTURALISM AWARD

This award is presented to a student organization that has provided continued opportunities for the Macalester community to engage in exploration and celebration of diverse cultures. The award acknowledges exemplary efforts to provide opportunities for others to explore one’s multiple identities and sense of place within our society.

STUDENT OR ORGANIZATION AWARD  -----------------------------------------------------

  • CIVIL DISCOURSE AWARD

This award is given to a student community or student organization that has promoted civil discourse on campus on issues related to diversity and inclusiveness. Through programming, education, and negotiation, they have increased understanding and dialogue among Macalester community members.

 FACULTY AND/OR STAFF AWARD  -----------------------------------------------------------

  • EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR AWARD

The Educator of the Year Award recognizes a staff and/or faculty member who consistently supports students’ co-curricular experiences. This award honors and applauds his/her leadership ability and commitment to students and Macalester campus life.
