EQUIPMENT/RESOURCES |
|
| The library lab makes
a wide variety of equipment and software available to the campus
community. While these resources are available to all users,
the primary purpose of the library lab is to meet the general
computing needs of current Macalester College faculty, staff
and students.
Macalester's Information
Technology Services department also provides a wide variety
of computing equipment and resources including documentation
and a trained staff of computing professionals.

The Library Lab provides 20 PC machines running Windows Professional
and 8 iMac computers running Mac OS X for general use. All PCs
are equipped with floppy and DVD-ROM drives and the Macintosh
computers have CD-ROM drives. The iMacs do not have floppy drives
or zip drives.

|
| The library lab also
makes laptop computers and digital cameras available for checkout.
See the EQUIPMENT CHECKOUT section
of the lab web site to learn specifically about the equipment

The computers in the lab have a variety of software installed
on them. This software includes the Microsoft Office Suite,

we have installed media applications like Windows Media Player,
Quicktime, and Real-One.

The lab employs 25 lab consultants
who provide lab users with basic computer-related support, as
well as maintain lab computers, printers, and the overall environment.
While consultants are not experts on every program available
in the Library Computer Lab, the consultants have received basic
training in supported software and will try to help you find
answers to your questions. |

|
|
|
|
|
| Library staff are also
available to try to help with computer-related problems that
lab users may experience. If they are unable to resolve the
issue, they will point you to other resources available on campus
that can help.
