Laptops Available for Checkout

The Library Lab provides 20 PC machines running Windows Professional and 8 iMac computers running Mac OS X for general use. All PCs are equipped with floppy and DVD-ROM drives and the Macintosh computers have CD-ROM drives. The iMacs do not have floppy drives or zip drives. See if any laptops are available right now

Who Can Check Out?
Laptop computer checkout is limited to current Macalester faculty, staff and students. Laptops can be checked out for up to 3 hours and may not be taken out of the building. Due to the limited number of laptops available, they may not be reserved or renewed.

Valid Macalester ID Needed
To borrow a laptop computer from the library lab you must have your current valid Macalester ID. You must also submit a completed and signed Equipment Borrowers Agreement every time you borrow a laptop. This agreement is given to you to fill out when you show up to check out equipment. If you have any outstanding library fines or charges which prevent you from checking out other library materials, you will also not be allowed to check out a laptop.

SAVING DOCUMENTS ON LAB LAPTOPS

Library laptops have software loaded on it which prevents users from making any permanent changes. Any documents saved to the laptop or any programs loaded will automatically be erased from the laptop unless it is saved in the designated "thawed space" on the laptop computer.

RETURN LAPTOPS TO LAB STAFF!

Laptop computers and other equipment should always be returned to a lab consultant or library staff member and should not just left on the counter when returned. There will be a $15 late charge for each 1 hour period or portion thereof that the laptop is returned beyond the due date/time. If there is missing or damaged equipment, there is a replacement charge of up to $1800 plus a processing fee of up to $200 for damage to or loss of the laptop computer or peripheral equipment.
