About This Quilt Piece

One of the things you are confronted with on a daily basis when working in a library is the extraordinary complexity and richness of knowledge. Working in a library you have a chance to approach information and knowledge from a bird's-eye view and see its rich diversity. You help and work with students and faculty from across disciplines and you realize that all the resources in a library are connected through ideas, ideas that build upon ideas. At the same time, you can pick any book on a shelf and spend a lifetime understanding everything about just that one topic.

Libraries exist at this intersection of wide and focused perspectives, and provide curated ways for broad exploration whether through traditional or online resources. And, because of the complexity and the richness of knowledge, and the wide variation of ideas, it takes everyone to understand a library collection, online and traditional.
