Ebooks and netLibrary
What is an Ebook?Ebooks are electronic reproductions of an original print publication with exact match for pagination. There are several varieties of ebooks available to consumers. Ebooks provided through the Library at Macalester to faculty, students, and staff are made available through netLibrary. netLibrary ebooks can be viewed from any computer connected to the Internet. Information About the netLibrary Ebook CollectionThe CLIC Libraries and the MINITEX Library Information Network provide access to over 12,000 Ebook titles. Anyone may preview a title within netLibrary for 15 minutes online. In order to check out netLibrary Ebooks, you must set up a netLibrary account. All Macalester accounts must be set up from a computer connected to the campus network. Once you have established an account, you may then preview and checkout titles from the netLibrary collection from any computer connected to the Web. The checkout period for netLibrary Ebooks is 4 hours.
Viewing RequirementsViewing ebooks through netLibrary requires version 5.5 and above of Microsoft® Internet Explorer or version 6.2 and above of Netscape Navigator. In order to view some eBook titles you may need either the Adobe Reader 6.0 plug-in or the DjVu plug-in. If a plug-in is required to view a title, the Viewing Requirements section will show which plug-in is required and will provide a link to download the appropriate plug-in. Ebooks within the CLICnet Library CatalogYou can use the CLICnet Library Catalog to search for over 8,000 of the ebooks within netLibrary. Search by SuperKeyword using the term "netlibrary" to see a partial list of available titles. For a complete list of ebooks, please use netLibrary. |
