Resources and Collections

 

  • Archives - The Archives are the repository for the important data relating to Macalester College since its inception in 1875.

 

 

  • Catalogs - Catalogs provide information about materials owned by a particular library, or group of libraries, including books, periodical titles, electronic resources, sound recordings, videos, and other materials. Library catalogs are the primary research tool to use when searching for books.

 

  • Collections - View information about selected DeWitt Wallace Library collections.

 

  • DigitalCommons@Macalester - Highlights Macalester College scholarship of various types with a focus on student Honors Papers. Research and scholarly output included here has been selected by the individual departments and centers on campus. This project involves collaboration with other liberal arts colleges to develop institutional repositories on our respective campuses.

 

  • East Asian Collection Project - As part of the Freeman Foundation Undergradute Asian Studies Initiative, the East Asian Collection Project is to build up, through coordinated efforts among the three colleges of Macalester, Carleton, and St Olaf, a cooperative library collection on East Asia in support of the East Asian Studies corricula.

 

  • Ebooks - Ebooks are electronic reproductions of printed publications. The CLIC libraries and MINITEX (a statewide, publicly supported library network) currently provide access to Ebooks through an online service called netLibrary. Ebooks can be viewed from any computer connected to the Internet. In order to access Ebooks, you need to set up a netLibrary account.

 

 

  • Faculty Publications, Scholarship & Research Database - Search a directory of the research interests and accomplishments of Macalester's faculty. It is maintained by the staff of the DeWitt Wallace Library, in cooperation with the Center for Scholarship and Teaching, College Relations, and the Provost.

 

 

  • Research Catalogs, Databases, & Indexes by Title - Catalogs provide you with information about materials (books, journals, videos & DVD's, sound recordings, etc.) available at a particular library or group of libraries. Databases and indexes help you to find information about scholarly and popular journal and newspaper articles related to a particular discipline, or disciplines. Information about other materials, such as books, reports, or conference proceedings, may also be included within a particular index.

 

  • Journal Finder - Find information about journals, newpapers, and magazines available at Macalester through the Library.

 

  • MacLinks - Also known as SFX, this service helps you to find out whether a particular journal article, book, or other item is available here at Macalester. Look for the MacLinks button in many of our online subscription resources.

 

  • New Titles List - Browse through new books and other Library materials by subject/call number and department.

 

  • Open Access Publishing - Find information and access resources related to the open access publishing movement, a new trend affecting scholary publishing.

 

  • Preservation - Learn about the preservation of materials in the DeWitt Wallace Library.

 

  • RefWorks - RefWorks is a Web-based product that allows individual users to manage bibliographic citations and format citations using a wide variety of styles.

 

  • Reserves - Faculty at Macalester request that required and recommended course readings be placed on Reserve in the library to provide access to course materials which are in high demand and low supply. The format may be traditional photocopied paper reserves, books, or electronic reserves available from the library catalog via the campus network.
