Submitting Material for E-Reserves

Reprints may be submitted by faculty in the traditional manner, by completing a reserve request form and clipping it to the reprint. When submitting items for electronic reserves, please submit only one copy of each article. Please circle "Yes" and fill in the date by which the students need to read the material. If nothing is circled, we assume that you do not want the material processed electronically. Material will be processed about a week before the date by which the students need to read it. One, and only one, copy will be available at the library reserve desk; this provides access to all patrons, not just members of the Macalester community with access to the campus network. We cannot copy materials for you. It is helpful if you do not submit everything you need on reserves for the entire term during the first few weeks.

Please remember that we need at least 8 days to process material

The completed reserve request form serves as a backup searching method if the CLICnet Reserves System or the campus network goes down.

Use the same title as you have listed on your syllabus.

Materials submitted for electronic reserve must conform to the "fair use" copyright guidelines, that is, no more than one chapter from a book, or more than one article from a periodical not owned by the library. If copyright permission is required, the library staff will seek to obtain permission.

Please remember the following physical guidelines:

  • Submit the clearest copy, optimally the original, with no blurry sections, or words going off the page. A scanner will not make a poor copy cleaner.
  • Do not staple material.
  • Use only 8 ½ x 11 paper.
  • Make sure the article is in order by page number.
  • Face all pages the same way.
  • Do not submit copies that have 2 pages photocopied side-by-side onto one page.
  • Dog-eared paper does not feed well through the scanner.
  • Do not submit works of art.
  • Formulas and integers do not scan well.
