Macalester Digital Scholarship Initiatives
Digital Commons
DigitalCommons@Macalester is an online repository and publishing system that highlights college scholarship of various types (working papers, journal articles, dissertations and theses, etc.). DigitalCommons is part of an open access initiative and provides open and free access to the scholarly and creative works produced by Macalester students, faculty, and staff. By doing so, we not only increase the visibility of our scholarship, but we also encourage collaboration and innovation in order to contribute to the ongoing development of new knowledge.
Selected Works
Selected Works is a feature of the DigitalCommons@Macalester system that allows us to collect and feature the publications, teachings and achievements of individual Macalester faculty members. Faculty members interested in updating, please see this guide or contact your library liaison.
CONTENTdm and CLIC Digital Collections
The Library has made available collections both for research and teaching at Macalester using the CONTENTdm online archiving system. The system is shared by the Cooperating Libraries In Consortium, (CLIC), a non-profit federation of the libraries of eight private colleges and universities in Saint Paul and Minneapolis, Minnesota. The members of this consortium have chosen to make a variety of unique collections more readily available in digitally searchable and accessible versions. The collections you find here are widely varied and continually growing, and include audio, visual, and textual resources.
The Mac Weekly and Historical Macalester Newspapers
Browse or search the archives of The Mac Weekly, Macalester's student newspaper, from September 1914 to April 2008. Also browse or search content from the historical publications The College Echo (1886-1898) and the Macalester Bulletin (1898-1924).

The digitization of the Echo and the Bulletin was made possible by the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund, administered by the Minnesota Historical Society, through the vote of Minnesotans on November 4, 2008.
Oral History Project
The Macalester College Oral History Project offers rich and varied perspectives on the history of Macalester and the people and events who have made the College what it is. Audio and videotaped interviews provide a permanent record of the stories and memories of Macalester community members, and serve as a rich supplement to College records maintained by the Archives.
Macalester Views
Macalester Views is a collection of digital images that reflect the observations of the Macalester community engaged in study or work around the globe; from Minneapolis, to El Paso, to Fiji, to Ghana. Selected images will be published on-line as a collection for use in teaching and learning worldwide.
