Lilly House Porch Gatherings - Summer 2014

With the busy school year behind you, summer is the perfect time to reflect on some of life's big questions.

Join us for dessert on the porch of the Lilly House (196 Vernon Street) throughout the summer for connection and conversation on important issues facing Macalester students.

RSVP here  for these gatherings - so we are sure to have enough dessert for all!

Local or Global? Vocational Choices in a Complex World - Wednesday, July 23rd ~ 7:00pm-8:00pm

PiesUndividedLifeMany Macalester students struggle with what type of impact is most ethical. Should they only work locally? Is there a place for first world individuals in social change outside the U.S.? How do we choose a path amidst the complications that arise when we attempt to do good work? Come listen to how two women negotiated their vocation by taking very different paths in working with refugees

Dr. Shuli Bonham is a primary care physician for Portland Community Health Centers where her focus is on providing care for the refugee community in Portland, Maine. She is a graduate of Oberlin College and the University of MN Medical School.

Misha Quill is a feminist anthropologist from the University of Iowa who just returned from a year in Bangladesh where she investigated the policies and procedures used by United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in the screening selection, orientation and resettlement of refugees from Myanmar.
