    Money Money Money Money

I hate to beg (well that's not true, I love it), but the end of the quarter for political fundraising is upon us! Progressive candidates both need money, and more importantly need support. Even $5 shows that you care (I know you all have summer jobs)! Meanwhile, if you are donating to someone in MN you can get up to $50 of your donation refunded back to you by the state within a few weeks, so really it is just a loan. We spent all of last semester bringing great progressive candidates to Mac Dems so if any of them struck a note with you go to their websites and give. If you are looking for some great national candidates check out: Act Blue!

    College Dems National Convention

A message from Alex Valen, Chair of the College Democrats of Minnesota:
I am writing because the College Dems National Convention is coming up on July 20-23 at St. Louis University in St. Louis, MO. CDM will pay for registration, housing, and transportation to and from St. Louis for a limited number of students in exchange for 25-30 hours of volunteer work for the DFL Coordinated Campaign. Please email me ASAP if you are interested as we would like everybody to be registered by Friday or the cost will go up. Please visit www.collegedems.com for more information on the convention. I would like to see as many Minnesota college students as possible in St. Louis as it is imperative that Minnesota be represented at the national level. In the event that there are more people interested than we have spots for, the order in which I receive your emails will determine who will receive funding. Feel free to email me with any questions you might have regarding the convention or anything else.
Contact Alex at alex@mncollegedems.org or 651-270-6294 if you are interested.

    Movies Every MacDem Should See

An Inconvenient Truth- You've seen the ads. There is even a facebook group about it. Go see it. Bring your friends. Come back in the fall ready to fight global warming and elect the people who will do something about it. Go to the website for more information.

The Road to Guantanamo- from the maker of Supersize Me, a movie that documents and dramatizes the story of three British Muslims who were imprisoned at Guantanamo.
    Check it out here.

I saw an Inconvenient Truth this last Friday and I would highly recommend it to anyone who has the opportunity to see it. (It's not in very wide release; hopefully that will change.) I also heard a radio interview this afternoon on the BBC's The World with one of the men spotlighted in Road to Guantanamo. Sounds like a very, very powerfully important movie.

I would like to see it. But i have such a long list of movies to see, like The Da Vinci Code and X Men 3. Superman. When can I fit it in? MacDems help me! I miss posting on the blog

    Anyone There?

This would be a great campaign to get involved with!
The Kathy Saltzman for Minnesota Senate campaign is seeking motivated, responsible, and passionate individuals to work on a highly competitive suburban race. Kathy Saltzman is currently an education lobbyist who is running as a Democrat for the Senate seat in District 56 (the eastern suburbs including Woodbury and Stillwater).

We are offering internship and volunteer opportunities in several areas including: field organizing, research, fundraising, communications, and volunteer recruitment. As an intern with the Saltzman for Senate campaign, you will be provided with experience in all facets of campaigning with a strong focus on developing grassroots organizing skills from hands-on experience within the district.

Hours and days are flexible. Saltzman campaign staff will be happy to work with you so that you can earn credit towards graduation. This is an unpaid position.

Next week, Thurs. June 15, we will have our Senate District picnic with Al Franken. For those interested in volunteering for this event, we will pay your ticket and offer you an opportunity to meet Al Franken.

If you are interested in applying as an intern or volunteer, send an email with a message detailing your interest and attach your resume to saltzmancampaignmanager@yahoo.com
Please call me with any questions, 651-247-1034.
We hope to hire soon, so priority will be given to those who apply first. Thanks and we look forward to hearing from you soon!

rumor has it franken is making wuite a set of rounds in the local political scene in minnesota? true?

That's what I have heard, too. But what I have also heard (and what I like quite a lot) is that he is not just making the rounds as any old politician would, but that he is really making an effort to reach out and connect with MN communities, rural and urban. Certainly part of that is because he has been away from MN for long that he needs a bit of a refresher, but I think it shows a genuine interest to reach out and connect with Minnesotans in a way that is very reassuring from a politician.
