The intern(s) would meet weekly with the candidate(s) and key campaign staff, and, if they were interested, and it was a spring internship, could work at the caucuses and Senate District Convention. Work space and computer access will be provided for the intern(s) but much of the work could also be conducted on-line from the Macalester campus and at the state Capitol. Due to limitations on campaign spending, the internship/staff position(s) is primarily unpaid, but a modest stipend could be discussed. HECUA

    Greetings,

HECUA's Partners Internship Program (PIP) has announced *20 paid summer
internships with non-profit organizations* around the upper midwest,
with about half of those being in the Twin Cities area. These 10-week
positions offer great, challenging projects working with solid
organizations, and supported by the PIP staff. These are extremely
competitive, being open to all college students in the upper Midwest.
However, two years ago, four of the 20 positions went to Mac students!
All of the positions may be viewed on the internship website
    (www.macalester.edu/internship) or at HECUA's (www.hecua.org/pip).

I am sending you a few of the positions that should be of particular
interest to the students you work with. Please circulate and promote
these, encouraging students to pursue them as soon as possible; although
there is an application deadline of March 3, 2006, it is truly
beneficial to "be ahead of the game". I am available for more info (I
am on the PIP Advisory Board and therefore have some "insider"
information), and can help students develop a solid resume for the
    application process. Thank you!

    Paid Legislative Process Internships Available

Center of the American Experiment, Minnesota’s premier Conservative and Free Market Think Tank, has six paid internships available working on www.MinnesotaVotes.org during the 2006 Minnesota State Legislative Session (roughly March 1st through May 15th).

MinnesotaVotes.org is a tool to put legislative voting records at citizen’s fingertips 24 hours a day in a clear and simple format that isn’t currently available any place else. Citizens are able to search by keyword, subject area, bill number, or legislator to retrieve up-to-date information on actions taken by the state legislature. Regular visitors can customize their MinnesotaVotes.org site to automatically display their legislators’ recent votes. Perhaps most distinctive and helpful, visitors who are interested in a particular bill or topic are able to sign up for e-mail notification when any action (bill introduction, committee report, amendment, or floor vote) takes place on that bill or topic of interest.

Self-motivating interns would have the ability to work from their home computers. Job requires good organizational, research, and analytical skills as well as an interest in learning the ins and outs of the legislative process in Minnesota. A stipend will be provided, and the Center will help students to attain academic credit if they so desire.

Interviews will take place the first couple weeks of February, and a training session will be conducted prior to the legislative session which begins on March 1st. The internship will wrap up at the end of the 2006 legislative session around the middle of May.

For more information or to send a resume and cover letter, please contact Chris Tiedeman at chris.tiedeman@americanexperiment.org or 612-338-3605.
