Joëlle Vitiello, associate professor of Francophone Studies at Macalester, is the faculty leader for the MacReads discussion about Mountains Beyond Mountains by Tracy Kidder.

Professor Vitiello has published several articles about Haitian literature and co-edited a collection of articles about Haitian literature written by women of the Antilles (Haiti, Guadeloupe, Martinique) called Elles écrivent des Antilles (1997). Vitiello has led several workshops on Senegal/Mali, Haiti, and North Africa for the local francophone community including the Allicance Française and the American Association of Teachers of French.

Professor Viotello teaches 20th century French literature, Francophone Studies, Cultural Trends in Contemporary France and French at all levels. While serving as the faculty leader for MacReads 2005, she will also be teaching Francophone Studies: Haiti and French: Text, Film & Media.
