                              2009 Conference, St. Paul, MN

The MCEIA Conference is a great place to advance your organizations internship and co-op program. In today's economy, the only sure thing is making yourself the most marketable person in your profession by attending professional events, staying abreast of current trends and renewing your professional network.  Given your tight training and development budget, this is a great opportunity to attend a top-notch conference in your own back yard!

Feb. 9, 2010 (8:30 - 10:30am)     Gimme Some Credit!

Dr. Kathryn Hanna of the Uof M’s College of Biological Sciences will discuss the characteristics of an academically sound internship, including a review of learning objectives, learning strategies, and outcome measures -- in other words, can academic credit enhance an internship?  This is a reprise of her presentation at the 2009 Midwest Cooperative Education and Internship Assn.

April 13, 2010  (8:30 - 10:30am)   Top 10 Characteristics of a Successful Internship Program. 

                                                   Part 1: Structure 

During this "working meeting" we'll develop a list of what structural elements a successful program MUST have.  Are your position descriptions the best they can be?  Is your orientation preparing students for their experience effectively?  The list will become MAFEL's best practices for internship program administration.  Sara Nagel Newberg, Director of the University of Minnesota St. Paul Campus Career Center will facilitate.

June 8, 2010  (8:30 - 10:30am)   Top 10 Characteristics of a Successful Internship Program. 

                                           Part 2: Behavior Management

During this second "working meeting" we'll develop a list of behavior management practices and policies a successful program needs.  Can you fire an intern?  What's the most effective way to address problem behavior?  The list will become MAFEL's best practices for internship program administration.
