Notice to Students Who Receive Newspapers
Due to the large volume of newspapers, we cannot hold them. Papers need to be picked up every day. If you have a special need, let us know. We will do everything in our power to help you and find a solution that will work for all of us.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Can I send packages through Airborne, UPS, FexEx or other service through you?

A. No, we can only send your things via the US Postal Service. If you have packages that you need to send through these other services you must make arrangements with their service to pick up directly from you.

Students: We recommend that you set up a time to meet the delivery person in the lower level commons area of the campus center. For more information contact us via email at: mailingservices@macalester.edu

There is a Mailboxes Etc. Located at 1043 Grand Avenue just past Lexington on Grand Avenue. Mailboxes Etc. are qualified to ship through a variety of different shipping companies.


Q. What about College business that is being shipped through UPS or FedEx?

A. You need to check with Brian Harrison in Central Stores at extension x6364.


Q. What about packages that are being shipped through UPS or FedEx to the College?

A. We can receive those packages. They are received at Shipping and Receiving by the guarantee times then are brought down to us at about 2:00 pm. We then mark them in like any other package and a slip for pick-up is put in the Student, Faculty or Staff member's box. If you have a special need, i.e. the package is medication that is needed right away, you can make arrangements with Brian Harrison in Central Stores at extention x6364 to pick up the package from him between the hours of 8:00 am and 12:00 Noon.


Q. What happens to my mail when I go on an Off Campus Program (OCP) or on a Leave of Absence (LOA)?

A. If we are not given an address to send mail to from the student, we will forward your mail to the permanent address that you have listed with the Registrar's Office. If your permanent address is out of the country, we will hold your mail until you return to campus.

Q. How do I address an envelope to my son/daughter who attends the College?

A. Please put the middle initial of the student that you sending to as we sometimes have more than one student with the same name. Example:

If you are using a computer to address your envelopes, there is an option under the tools menu that puts a bar-code at the bottom/top of the address. This helps the US Postal Service to expedite your mail piece.
