Work Opportunities at the MAX Center

The Macalester Academic Excellence Center hires Macalester students, both with and without work-study, for a variety of positions. Students interested in careers in education may be especially interested in working for the MAX Center.

Science Tutors
Tutor students one-on-one in such classes as Bio 21, 22, 23 and Chem 11, 13, 23, 37 or 38. Tutors must have received a grade of at least B in classes they will tutor and have an interest in pursuing chemistry or biology. Contact Dave Ehren.

Writing Tutors
Work with students in aspects of paper writing and planning. Students with exceptional skills in communication, rhetoric and grammar may apply. Contact Becky Graham .

Math Tutors
Students need to be able to tutor at least three courses in Macalester's Math/CS curriculum, including Calc 1 and Calc 2. Tutors must have received at least a B+ in these courses. Contact Dave Ehren.

ADA Tutors
Students are hired to assist in accommodating students with disabilities. Duties may include transcription, note taking, assisting in research, or reading to the student or onto tape. Students should be able to communicate clearly and effectively. Duties change as needs change. (ADA tutors are also trained as writing tutors, and do those duties when not needed for ADA services, so please read that description, too.) Contact Julie Lucking.
