How Not to Stress About Writing
Panic early, not the night before your paper is due.
Talk to your professor if you find his or her assignment
vague
or unclear.
Ask your professor questions about the details of the paper,
e.g.: what type of citations to use, if he or she always wants a
formal essay, who is your audience, are I statements
ok?
Find a workspace thats free of such distractions as
the internet, IM, significant others, friends or roommates.
Work on your paper a little bit at a time. If you get frustrated,
dont stop; move on to a different section.
Make an outline of a structure for the paper before you start
to write, so you dont have to rearrange so much later.
Talk to someone else about your ideas, e.g.: a friend, your
professor or a Max Center tutor.
Write your preliminary ideas down on paper or record your
ideas on tape and listen to them.
Try writing your introduction last so it fits your paper
topic.
Come to the MAX Center to have a writing tutor help you start,
finish or revise your paper.
