The Color of Money: Running Fiscal Close and Moving Financial Functions Into Milacq
Corey Seeman, Assistant Dean for Resource & Systems Mgmt, Univ of Toledo

We knew it was going to happen...now its here. Fiscal Close is no longer a Telnet-only activity, but a separate mode within Millennium Acquisition with the release of Millennium Silver. In this session, we will review Millennium fiscal close and look at some of the financial functions now part of Millennium. In addition, this program will introduce users the basic parameters of fiscal close (which do not change from telnet to Millennium), setting up the new year, handling endowments, and other steps you need to take before, during, and after fiscal close.

Statistics 101: Gathering data from Innopac Statistic Reports and Millennium Web Mgmt Reports
Jim Vogt, Popular Materials Selection Librarian and Cataloger of non-print materials, Saint Paul Public Library

Traditionally, decisions have been made by libraries that are based on staff assumptions, hash mark tallies and oft-told anecdotes. Innovative’s ability to tabulate hard data has given librarians a new tool that can assist in the decision-making process. The Saint Paul Public Library has begun using Innovative’s statistical gathering abilities to reassess workload, reconfigure the materials budget, make collection development decisions and re-examine long-accepted theories. Examples of Innopac Statistic Reports, Web Circ Activity Reports and Web Cross-Tabulation Reports will be presented.  During the past summer, Jim introduced the Innovative statistics program to Saint Paul Library staff in 14 training sessions.

URL Checking: Critical Link in Bib Quality Control and a New Dimension for Catalogers
Sean Felhofer, Head Cataloger, William Mitchell College of Law
Don Zhou, Head of Technical Services, William Mitchell College of Law

As the links to electronic resources in online catalogs multiply, the inevitable but sometimes neglected challenge or libraries is how to ensure those links are not broken. William Mitchell College of Law has solved the challenge by using a locally created program that checks all the links and identifies the problematic URLs. The cataloger then uses the resulting report to fix the links by sleuthing through host sites to find the correct addresses. A whole range of solutions and ingenious methods are used in the process, adding a new dimension to what catalogers traditionally perform on the job.

IUG Clearinghouse - An Exciting New Resource for IUG Members
Corey Seeman, Assistant Dean for Resource & Systems Mgmt, Univ of Toledo

The Innovative Users Group officially launched the IUG Clearinghouse at its meeting at ALA annual in Orlando, June 25, 2004. The IUG Clearinghouse will be a member-driven and supported resource that will include the solutions, forms, scripts, guides, manuals, and other resources that IUG members have created to work with the system. This culminates work started last year by a group of IUG volunteers to create a web-based tool that would facilitate the sharing of resources that members have created. The presentation will provide the background for this project, what we expect the Clearinghouse to provide, and how it will be managed.

Leveraging Your Collection: Managing and Providing Optimal Access to E-Resources
Katy Gabrio, Serials Librarian, Macalester College
Angi Faiks, Associate Director/Collection Management Team Leader, Macalester College

As libraries continue to spend a significant and growing portion of their budgets on electronic resources it becomes increasingly important that we provide optimal access to this growing collection of rich resources. E-resources can often seem invisible to users due to their intangible form, so we are faced with the often difficult challenge of providing intuitive or seamless access. We invite you to come learn more about the tools used in conjunction with the public catalog that are designed to link your users to the resources you've acquired, such as those that incorporate the OpenURL linking standard or those that focus on bringing your deep and hidden full text to the surface. Macalester College will share their experiences using SFX and Serials Solutions and we invite participants to share stories about the products, whether purchased or homegrown, used to leverage their own collections.
