Life in technical services sure has changed in the past ten years. Powerful integrated systems, electronic ordering and claiming, and collection and management of electronic resources have all contributed to change how technical services does business. Has your technical services workflow changed with the times? Linda will share her thoughts on designing a workflow to fit today's reality.

Within our Innovative Library Systems is a wealth of data including usage and holdings information. In this session, David will explore the processes that can be used for extracting data from the system and importing it in to other programs where it can be more easily manipulated, used for other purposes or made more presentable.

Issue forums are an opportunity for staff interested in the specific topics to sit down with others from Innovative libraries to share experiences, ideas, strategies, and information and to get questions answered.

Forum A: Bindery management procedures
Discussion leader: Dani Roach, Library Specialist in Collection Management/Serials at Macalester College's DeWitt Wallace Library.

Are you in a bind? Are you bound to share your knowledge with others? Please bring your questions, tips and helpful hints on Innovative's binding functions to this Binding Issues Forum. The discussion leader will
facilitate conversation and exchange after a brief review of Innovative's binding functions. Both Millennium and text-based questions and tips are welcomed. Please come prepared to participate and bring copies of written
procedures or any materials your colleagues may be able to make use of.

Forum B: Issues in music acquisitions
Discussion leader: Dawn Moder, Library Associate, St. Olaf College.

Acquiring music materials for a library can present special and unique challenges. This session provides an opportunity for people involved with music acquisitions to get together to share ideas, strategies, and information. Possible discussion topics include vendors available for different types of music, uniform titles, and methods for verifying current holdings.

C: Electronic ordering
Discussion leader: Louise Merriam, Head of Acquisitions, Minneapolis Public Library.

Innovative Interfaces provides libraries with the opportunity to do electronic ordering with serials and book vendors. The Innovative system allows purchasing books and serials, processing electronic invoices, and obtaining MARC records on the Web.   This session will provide staff who do electronic ordering and those who would like to learn more about this process an opportunity to share experiences and get questions answered.


Forum D: Basic MARC holdings statements in Millennium serials
Presenter: Betsy Polakowski, Serials/Technical Services Librarian, University of St. Thomas, Archbishop Ireland Memorial Library.

Is your library considering whether to change its serial holdings (library has) statements from plain text into the MARC Holdings Format? How hard is it to learn MARC? What types of problems will crop up? Betsy will give an basic "how to use" the MARC Holdings Format within Millennium Serials.
