Members of the student organization MULCH dream of getting their hands back in the soil all Spring. When March comes around, they help plan for the summer and start seeds in the greenhouse. Depending on how Minnesota the winter is (late April 2013 and it's still snowing!) students will help see the seeds safely to the garden.
Our garden facilitates a space for education of ourselves, our school, and our community about urban agriculture, environmental justice, food and community love.
MULCH meets on Sunday afternoons in the garden or the greenhouse, depending on the season. Our summer gardener is a paid position and is responsible for a majority of in-season work. If you're in the Twin Cities this summer and want to help tend the garden, harvest, and enjoy the food you grow, let us know! We can always use an extra set of hands.
In the summer there will also be other ways to stay involved in Mac's community garden. Stay tuned for Summer 2013 updates (skill-shares, hoedowns, farmer's markets, crop-shares and more!) .
The Summer 2013 garden will feature (among others:) sungold tomatoes, eggplant, scallion, beet, peas, carrots, radishes, chard, kale, arugula, nasturtiums, spinach, ground cherries, cilantro, parsley, basil, beans, cucumber, summer squash, winter squash, potatoes, marigolds, zucchini, and more!
The MULCH garden gets its seeds from: Egg/plant Urban Farm Supply
