Host Family Program

In collaboration with the Alumni Office , this program connects Macalester alumni of color with first-year students of color/multiracial students. This program is designed to give new students an off-campus resource person with shared experiences at Macalester who can assist with students’ adjustment to campus and provide links to the greater Macalester community.

C-House Interior picThe Cultural House

Located at 37 Macalester Street, this is a safe space for domestic students of color and allies who are interested in learning from and contributing to a multicultural environment.  The C-House strives to be a symbol of connection for people of color at Macalester and in the Twin Cities.  Although the C-House is organized around the dismantling of racism, there is careful attention paid to the intersection of multiple identities, including gender, class, sexual orientation, national origin, age, ability, and religion.  Programming and many cultural organizations who utilize the C-House are structured in a diasporic manner that recognizes that race may have variant meanings in an international context.

A Celebration of Multicultural Moments

Annual Department of Multicultural Life reception that celebrates the various multicultural moments at Macalester by recognizing and honoring the students, faculty, and staff who have worked with the department and had a positive impact on multicultural life at Macalester.

The Multicultural Advisory Board
The mission of this board is to create a diverse multicultural working group whose members represent various academic disciplines, levels of administration and staff, and differences in areas of influence within the college.  This group is a model of how a multicultural group can work together to infuse multiculturalism throughout the college by examining multicultural issues facing Macalester and using themselves as instruments to become effective change agents to assist the institution in effectively infusing multiculturalism across campus.
