Karla Rutten picKarla Benson Rutten

Director, Lealtad-Suzuki Center

As Director of the Lealtad -Suzuki Center , Karla Benson Rutten is the intitial contact point for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members seeking assistance or raising concerns regarding multicultural issues.  Karla acts as the training and development coordinator around skills related to cross-cultural communication, group work, and recognition of difference; coordinates with various offices and departments to assist in the management and promotion of multicultural programming and services; and designs and develops multicultural programming for the Macalester campus community.   Karla grew up in North Dakota, and holds a B.S. degree in psychology from Iowa State University and an M.A. degree in higher education from the University of Maryland-College Park.

Afifa Benwahoud picAfifa Benwahoud

Department Coordinator

Afifa Benwahoud is the Department Coordinator for the Department of Multicultural Life.  She serves as the primary coordinator for the overall office operations of the Department of Multicultural Life and the Lealtad-Suzuki Center . She also serves as a receptionist and provides guests with information about programs and services. Afifa provides direct support to the Dean and the D Afifa holds an Associate degree in International Trade from the Moroccan branch of the London International House College and an Applied Management degree from the Moroccan branch of the Fondation des Hautes Etudes Economiques et Sociales de Bruxelles.  Prior to coming to Minnesota , she worked as the Administrative Manager for an International Danish Laboratory in Morocco.

 

Sedric McClure picSedric McClure
Multicultural Counselor, MAX Center

Sedric McClure is the Multicultural Counselor in the Macalester Academic Excellence. His duties include coordinating the Emerging Scholars Program and as staff coordinator of the African American Studies Conference.  In addition, Sedric is working with the Department of Multicultural Life to weave multiculturalism throughout the fabric of campus life.  He earned a BA in Political Science from Southwest State University, and looks forward to graduate studies in history in the very near future.
