Macalester Choirs Fall Choral Celebration

Join the Macalester Concert Choir, the Singing Scotsmen of Macalester and the Hildegard Singers (Women’s Ensemble) in their first performance under the direction of Dr. Eugene Rogers, as they celebrate the rich heritage of choral music from the past and present. The Macalester Concert Choir will perform Benjamin Britten’s Choral Dances from Gloriana, with harp and tenor soloist. Other works include William Walton’s Jubilate Deo, George Frederic Handel’s Let Thy Hand Be Strengthened (Coronation Anthem No. 2, HWV 259), Loch Lomond by Jonathon Quick and a newly commissioned piece by composer and conductor, Cary John Franklin. The Singing Scotsmen and the Hildegard Singers will perform works by David Conte, Benjamin Britten, and Paul Rardin.



SONGS OF THE EARTH: An Eclectic African and African-American Mass
featuring the Macalester Concert Choir and the Macalester African Music Ensemble

The Choral department announces its inaugural Songs of the Earth Concert series. This series will involve multi-cultural music from different parts of the world each year. A concert not to be missed as the Macalester Concert Choir combines in a full concert with the Macalester African Music Ensemble in an eclectic mass performance. The concert will feature excerpts from various African and African-American mass settings and songs.



WAR and Peace:
Requiem Mass in D Minor, K.626 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Jeffrey Van's A Procession Winding Around Me

The Macalester Combined Choirs unite with the Festival Chorale (faculty, staff and community members) to sing one of the most powerful and widely performed works in choral literature-Mozart’s Requiem Mass in D Minor. Featured St. Paul/Minneapolis area guest soloists and orchestra players will accompany the choir on this great work. In addition, Jeffrey Van’s poignant setting of Walt Whitman’s poetry for acoustic guitar and choir-A Procession Winding Around Me will be performed by the Macalester Concert Choir.
