Collegium Musicum Macalestri:
Collegium Musicum Macalestri specializes in instrumental and vocal music from the Medieval period through the Baroque. The Collegium players perform on the college collection of viols, recorders, crumhorns, kortholts, flutes, harpsichord, psaltry, rebec, cornetto, sacbut, and a variety of percussion instruments. Vocal soloists often sing with the instrumental ensemble. The instrumental ensemble is directed by Professor Carleton Macy who also performs with the ensemble.
The Collegium meets once per week. Specialized groups such as a Baroque trio sonata group often meet additional times. In the Fall of 1996, the Collegium took part in the Drama Department production of Shakespeare's THE TEMPEST. During the spring semester of 1999, the ensemble performed with the Macalester Dance Ensemble and attended a regional Early Music Festival. In the spring of 2001, the Collegium performed LILL DE DELOS by Luis Nicolas Clarembeau, a secular Baroque cantata for solo soprano, 2 violins, 2 recorders, and continuo.
