Collegium Musicum Macalestri

collegium
The Collegium Musicum specializes in instrumental and vocal music from the Medieval period through the Baroque, with occasional contemporary pieces. The Collegium players perform on the college collection of viols, recorders, crumhorns, kortholts, flutes, harpsichord, psaltry, rebec, cornetto, sacbut, and a variety of percussion instruments. Vocal soloists often sing with the instrumental ensemble. The instrumental ensemble is directed by Professor Carleton Macy. Student-directed vocal consorts often appear with the collegium players.

The Collegium meets once or twice per week depending upon individual schedules and selected literature. Recent program emphasis has been upon literature from the Baroque. The fall 2008 concert presented music by JS Bach and his 5 composer sons: WF, JC, CPE, JCF, and PDQ. The spring 2009 repertoire included trios and quartetos by Telemann and Loeillet, two movements from a Boccherini quintet for strings and guitar, and JS Bach’s Suite No. 1.
