Randy Bauer is a composer and pianist immersed in both the classical and jazz worlds, and teaches courses having to do with music theory, composition, jazz and improvisation. His compositions have received several national awards and have been premiered by such groups as the Brentano String Quartet, eighth blackbird, Nash Ensemble of London, Synergy Vocals, New Millennium Ensemble, Network for New Music, Tarab Cello Ensemble, Philadelphia Chamber Symphony, and many others. Performances have taken place at the Kennedy Center in Washington, St. Petersburg (Russia), Uppsala (Sweden), Berlin, Paris, New York, Baltimore, and Chicago. He has been a fellow at Yaddo, the Ucross Foundation, and the Atlantic Center for the Arts, and also received a major fellowship from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. He has previously taught at Princeton University (both music and American Studies), the Peabody Conservatory, and Skidmore College. He holds two degrees from Johns Hopkins University and the Ph.D. from Princeton.
