- UNDER THE WINTER SKY: Piri solo (korean double reed) c. 7 mins. 1991. Written for Joseph
Celli; the piece includes an improvised section and the directions to use ornamentation

pieces by W.A.Mozart.
- BIRD OVER WATER: for 4 different Chinese bamboo flutes. 3+ mins., 1994. Written for the
flute players of the Minnesota Chinese Music Ensemble.
- EQUINOX and SOLSTICE: two flutes and piano. 11+ mins. 1992/1993.
- INTENSITY: for 4 Amplified flutes; c. 7 mins. 1986. Each flute plays into a mic and
is respectively amplified from each corner of the hall. The piece includes some indeterminacy.
- MONOGRAM: ALEXANDER GEORGE MACY: solo flute; c. 4 mins. 1983. Written for Rose Rinder.
- PHASE I: solo flute; c. 5 mins. 1981 Written for Carol Yaple
- TOUTE ENSEMBLE: for 8 Flutes; c. 14 mins. 1978/80. A flute version of the piece for 6
recorders; this version includes an additional movement.

- CIRCLES: 4tps, 4hns, 4tbs (4th is bass tb or tuba); c. 9 mins. 1978. A single movement
to be performed in a resonant space with the performers situated around the audience, not
necessarily with a conductor.
- COMMEMORATION FANFARE: 5 trombones. 1 min. 1991 A relatively subdued "fanfare"
written for the 20th anniversary celebration concert of the Macalester Festival Chorale. The
fanfare paraphrases ideas from Mozart's Magic Flute.
- FOUR RE-COMPOSITIONS: 2 tps, tb, tuba. c. 12 mins. 1974. Re-composed pieces from various
pre-1600 sources.
- MUSIC FOR TUBA ALONE: solo tuba, c. 10 mins, 1973. 5 movements, the last a fugue!; written
for Carla Rutschman.

Written for the Minnesota Chinese Music Ensemble and transcribed for the western ensemble
for the New Music Cafe for Illinois Wesleyan University. A meditative work combining Buddhist
atmosphere and minimalist textures.

Written for Dance and based upon a book of the same title by Nor Hall. Sections of the work
are evocative of archtypal female roles. Commissioned by Becky Heist and the Macalester Dance Ensemble.

Yuka Suzuki in 1979, and Spring Music was written for Christine Dahl as a sequel to Autumn Music

- CONCERTO FOR AMPLIFIED VIOLIN AND CHAMBER ORCHESTRA: amplified solo with digital
effects, orch: 2,2,2,2, 2,0,0, Strings; c. 17 mins. 1990. A three movement work involving
some extended techniques and sound modification, originally using a Lexicon LXP-5, and
stereo amplification; commissioned by James Riccardo and the Kenwood Chamber Orchestra.
- FANFARE: brass (6, 4, 3, 1, 1) and timpani; c. 1 min. 1984 Commissioned by Macalester College.
- FANFARE FOR AN OPENING: 6 or more tps, 4 hns, 3 tbs. c. 2 mins. 1988. The trumpets
are spread across a space and play on cue; the low brass play as a conducted ensemble;
the whole unifies at the end.
- FAUST, A CONCERTO for alto saxophone and string orchestra. 5 movements. 1993.

Written for Jim Hainlen and the Stillwater Area High School Orchestra. 2002.
- GRAND WATER MUSIC, for "Over the Waterfall," a Celtic folk ensembe,
"Pair O Docs," a 1930's swing combo, and resident musicians of the community
of Grand Marais, Minnesota. Commissioned by the American Composers Forum Rural Commissioning
Program to celebrate the opening of the Arrowhead Center for the Arts. Instrumentation:

- IN A CHILD'S GARDEN: concert band. c. 15 mins. 1983. Four mvts. based upon poems
from A Child's Garden of Verses by Robert Louis Stevenson.
- LIFE CATCHES: concert band. c. 10 mins. 1991. Five movement based upon five "life"
emotions or attributes: Thrill, solitude, anger, beauty, pulse.
- MY TEARS: soprano, vibraphone, and chamber orchestra; c. 10 mins. 1984. Based upon a
composition by Paulus Hofhaimer (c. 1500); written for Jenny Lind Larsen, commissioned by
the Macalester Chamber Orchestra, Edouard Forner, conductor. The pieces uses spatial
placement of the orchestra members, movement of the soloist from off-stage to center-stage
and then off again, and the conductor both conducting and playing chimes from the stage.

- SINFONIA: for String Orchestra; three movements. c. 12 mins. 1993.

flute and soprano; c. 10 minutes, 1982. A serious and humorous work on a
text by Roger Blakely. The flute player is asked to "play on"
a string bass and bass drum; the soprano plays a number of percussion
instruments. Only very elementary percussion technique is necessary.
