Macalester College Presents Concert of Chinese Music
Macalester ethnomusicologist Chuen-Fung Wong and artistic director Eugene Rogers are collaborating on an evening of eclectic and inspiring vocal, dance, and instrumental performances from China for the college’s second biannual Songs of the Earth series. Conducted by Eugene Rogers, the multi-arts event will be held at 8 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011, in the O’Shaughnessy Auditorium at the University of St. Catherine in St. Paul.

Carleton Macy Music Retrospective Concert To Be Held
A retrospective of music composed by Professor Emeritus Carleton Macy will be performed at Macalester College on Friday, October 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the Janet Wallace Fine Arts Center Concert Hall. Macy will play tenor recorder at the concert. Other performers are John Jensen, pianist; Zeitgeist (Heather Barringer, Patti Cudd, Pat O’Keefe, Shannon Wettstein); Emma Lynn, soprano; and Rose Rinder, flute.

Since coming together at the Yale School of Music in 1999, So Percussion, has been creating music that explores all the extremes of emotion and musical possibility. They will perform Friday, October 8 at 8 p.m. in Macalester College’s Janet Wallace Fine Arts Center Concert Hall, 1600 Grand Ave., St. Paul, Minn.
John Cage's Sonatas, Interludes and Accumulations
The Macalester Theatre & Dance and Music Departments collaborated on a significant choreographed performance of John Cage’s landmark 1948 piece, “Sonatas and Interludes for Prepared Piano.”
One of the New Music Series concerts featured jazz pianist, composer, and arranger Uri Caine performing solo piano works as well as with a combo, which included Macalester studio instructors Dave Jensen, trumpet, and Kathy Jensen, saxophone. The MacJazz big band, directed by Joan Griffith, performed several works by Caine.
