Theatre and Dance Department Presents "Sing Protest, Sing Peace"

The Macalester College Theatre and Dance Department presents Sing Protest, Sing Peace in the Janet Wallace Fine Arts Center, Main Stage Theater, 1600 Grand Ave., St. Paul, Minn. Admission is free. Performances are at 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday October 12th and 13th, and Sunday, October 14th at 2 p.m. Sing Protest, Sing Peace is directed by guest director Isabel Nelson, ’04. The Macalester Music Department and the Pulliam Endowment present pianist Anton Kuerti performing an all-Beethoven concert, 3 p.m., Sun., Oct. 14, in Mairs Concert Hall, Janet Wallace Fine Arts Center, 1600 Grand Ave, St. Paul. The concert is free and open to the public.
Macalester College’s annual International Roundtable will this year feature the topic “Feeding the World: Globalization, Food and Agriculture in the 21st Century.” It will be held Thursday, Oct. 11 and Friday, Oct. 12 in the John B. Davis Lecture Hall, Ruth Stricker Dayton Campus Center, 1600 Grand Ave., St. Paul, Minn. Presentations start at 11:15 a.m. on Oct. 11 and workshops at 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 12. 50th Anniversary of United World Colleges—and its Relationship with Macalester—Celebrated
Macalester College has completed the first phase of a comprehensive renovation and expansion of the Janet Wallace Fine Arts Center, ushering in a new era for the arts at Macalester. Construction began in January 2011 and was completed in July 2012.
Harriet Bart, a well-established conceptual artist who works in a wide-range of media, will present the first solo exhibition at Macalester College’s Law Warschaw Gallery in the newly renovated and expanded Janet Wallace Fine Arts Center. The exhibition, “Between Echo and Silence,” opens Sun., Oct. 7 and is curated by Joanna Inglot, chair and associate professor of Macalester’s Art and Art History department.

Professor Receives Fulbright to Lecture in China

Macalester Media and Cultural Studies professor Clay Steinman has been awarded a Fulbright Scholar grant to lecture at Southwest University in Beibei, Chongqing, China during the 2012-2013 academic year, the United States Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board announced recently.
