SPO (Student Post Office) is the term commonly used for campus mail. This term can be used as a verb (“I have to SPO a letter”) or a noun (“Let’s check our SPO’s”)

DUNN’S (Dunn Brothers), a popular coffee shop located on Grand and Snelling, is a great place to meet friends or take a study break. Dunn Bros. roasts beans fresh daily and often has live music in the  evening.

THE FISHBOWL is a link between Doty and Turck Residence Halls. It is a common place for students to gather, and is also a frequent pizza delivery area.

10K is a recreational area in the Dupre Hall basement. It hosts various campus events including concerts, dramatic performances, and dances.

KOWALSKI’S a neighborhood grocery store, is located a few blocks down Grand Ave. Open 24 hours, this is the perfect place to grab a middle-of-the-night snack.

SHAW FIELD is located at the south end of campus and home to the women’s softball team. It is a nice place outdoors for quiet studying or raucous Frisbee. Once a year, students gather on this field for Springfest, a day of food, fun, and live music.

THE LINK is the skyway between the library and Old Main (the oldest building on campus). It is used as a 24-hour study area.

THE INFO DESK is located in the Campus Center. Here you can purchase bus passes or movie tickets, and checkout laptops for use in the Campus Center.

FLEX DOLLARS may accompany your meal plan. They can be used to purchase additional entrances into Café Mac or at the Grille to buy food all day long, as well as late at night.

AUX POINTS consist of money you add to your student ID. They can be used at the Grille, inside Café Mac, at the Highlander store, at the Info Desk, or to do laundry in your residence hall.

THE C-HOUSE (Cultural House) is a residential and programming space dedicated to the promotion of cultural awareness. Its address is 37 Macalester Street, located right across the street from Bigelow and in front of GDD.

THE HIGHLANDER is the store located on the lower level of the Campus Center. You can find lots of Macalester clothing items and accessories such as sweatshirts, mugs, key chains, etc. It also has many useful items such as food, cards, posters, hygiene products, and office supplies. Moreover, it is home to the Computer Store during the academic year.

6777 is the directory access number to call students, faculty, or offices without knowing phone numbers (though you must know the last name of the person you are calling). Another way of finding someone’s phone number is through the Macalester web directory on campus.

KAGIN (Kagin Commons) was previously home to the cafeteria, but now houses student support offices such as the Civic Engagement Center (CEC) and Internship Offices as well as the Career Development Center (CDC), the MAX center, and the Lealtad-Suzuki Center. Study spaces and a banquet hall are also available for student use.

GDD (George Draper Dayton Hall) is Macalester’s newest residence hall. Typically home to members of the junior and senior classes, GDD is a top-notch facility with suite-style rooms.

THE LAMPERT BUILDING (or, the Bookstore), down the street from Jamba Juice, is where Macalester textbooks are sold.

THE “TODAY” can be found every morning at the Info Desk. It is a one-page newsletter that offers events for the day, along with local classifieds.

THE VEGGIE CO-OP is a special-interest community dedicated to vegetarian or vegan culinary lifestyle. Students in this residence hall eat communal meals 6 nights a week with each member taking turns cooking. The Veggie Co-op is located in the stadium.
