Mac Facts

Macalester was placed on the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, the highest federal recognition a school can achieve.

Welcome class of 2013

It is our pleasure to welcome you to the Macalester College community. We are delighted that you have decided to attend Macalester College, and we feel confident that your experience here will be an opportunity for personal and intellectual growth. We know that you will find Macalester an exciting and challenging environment for learning.

We expect that through the summer months you will begin to think about what life will be like at Macalester. The information available on this website, as well as the activities during Orientation 2009, are designed to help prepare you for your transition to college life. We encourage you to read all the areas carefully and participate in all the activities when you arrive on campus.

At Macalester, in the true sense of a liberal arts college, you will find that learning opportunities exist both in and out of the classroom. We encourage you to take advantage of as many of the opportunities as possible. When you arrive on campus for Orientation, you will meet with your academic adviser and other staff of the College who stand ready to help you take full advantage of this environment and meet the challenges that it offers. By fully engaging in the life of the College, you will gain more from the academic rigor and Macalester’s diverse and supportive community. While at Mac, we expect you to think about who you will be in life, as well as what careers you might pursue.

Congratulations on selecting Macalester for your undergraduate experience. We look forward to meeting you in September. If you have any questions you would like answered over the summer months, feel free to call our offices.

Sincerely,

Jim Hoppe
Dean of Students
