Alcohol and College Life

Welcome to Macalester! 
As an incoming student you are required to complete a confidential, online interactive program designed with your health in mind. 
*Complete this prior to your arrival on campus* Available August 10th, 2009
AlcoholEdu for College Module (required)

As you know, alcohol is issue that exists in the lives of college students.  Whether you abstain from alcohol entirely or not, it is an influence in our lives and in the lives of our family and friends.  Macalester is committed to promoting healthy behaviors and empowering students to inform themselves about the effects of alcohol use on themselves and the community. 

To help foster that environment, Macalester College has adopted AlcoholEdu for College as a component of our alcohol abuse prevention initiative.  This is not an over-simplified lecture about the use of alcohol.  It is a thoughtful, engaging program for adults committed to thinking about their life choices.

Your physical and emotional health, now and longer-term, will serve as a critical foundation for the potential that your intellect and creativity afford you.  Your commitment to yourself comes with a shared commitment to the health and welfare of others.  

To that end, all incoming students are expected to take AlcoholEdu for College.

  • you may access the course beginning August 10, 2009- there is a live web link provided below!
  • The First Year Login ID: 9C173902FIRSTYEAR
  • you will need to complete Part 1 (approximately 2 hours) by August 31, 2009
  • approximately 45 days later, you will receive an automated email asking you to complete the course.  At this time, you will log in and complete Part 2 which takes approximately 15 minutes.
  • Please note the course requires surveys that offer you feedback on your alcohol-related attitudes and behaviors.  All survey responses are confidential and Macalester will only receive aggregate data.

Once you get through the first page, you'll need to enter your Macalester student ID. If you can't readily find this in the other info you've received, here's one way to get it:

On the Macalester website, log into 1600 Grand. Once there, click on the "Academics" tab, and click the link to look at your transcript. When you display your transcript, your Mac ID will be on the top right hand corner of the page.
