Meet the Class of 2013
There are 568 first year students and 19 transfer students joining the Macalester community this fall. This is the largest group to enter Macalester in many decades. Many of these students chose Macalester because of the college’s emphasis on diversity and internationalism. They come to Macalester because it is a community that embraces and learns from differences. These are the students from the 4,564 applications for the first year spots that chose Macalester.

Away to college: putting a parent's sense of sadness in perspective
Macalester parent Stephen B. Awalt writes in the Baltimore Sun about sending his son off to Macalester. "When my family and I said goodbye to our son at the airport a couple weeks ago, it occurred to me, amid the hugging and crying, that despite all of our preparation for this stage of child-rearing ... there is little that prepares a parent for the expected-yet-sudden loss of a child going to college." Published September 14, 2009.

Princeton Review: The Best 368 Colleges

Macalester receives a perfect score for quality of life by its own students in the 2009 Princeton Review and was ranked in the top ten in this category out of the 368 colleges profiles.
