When do I get paid?
Students are paid on the Bi-Weekly Payroll Schedule. Click here to get a printable schedule.
Can my check be direct deposited into my bank account?
A student can have their pay check deposited directly into one or more bank account. To have direct deposit set up, complete the Direct Deposit Form. It may take one to two pay periods for the direct deposit to take effect.
I wonder what my check will look like if I change my tax exemptions?
www.PayCheckCity.com is a website you can use for these "what if" situations. The instructions will walk you through entering the information from your Macalester College payroll check necessary for the calculation. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view the instructions.
I've lost my check! What do I do to get it replaced?
If a student loses or washes their check or their check is stolen, it should be reported to the Payroll Department. The Payroll Department will place a stop payment upon the check in question. There is a $20.00 stop payment fee. Once Payroll receives confirmation that the check has not been cashed, a replacement check will be issued. This process can take up to 48 hours to complete.
What is my rate of pay?
All questions concerning student rates of pay should be directed to the Student Employment Office (HR).
What are my tax withholdings?
Tax withholding is done in accordance with your W-4 Form. Complete a new W-4 Form if you would like to make a change to your tax withholdings.

Where is my paycheck delivered?
Student payroll checks are delivered to your SPO. Direct deposit is a recommended alternative to this.
When is my timesheet due?
Timesheets must be submitted to your supervisor via the 1600grand portal by the date and time indicated by your supervisor (typically the Friday at the end of the pay period. For pay to be processed, the timesheet must be approved by your supervisor prior to the date and time indicated on the timesheet
"Pay Period Time Entry Status" line via your electronic timesheet on 1600grand.
What should I do if my timesheet is late?
Enter hours for the late time via the 1600grand portal by the day on the "Hours from Previous Pay Period" line. Comments are required indicating the day(s) the time was reported for.
Can my paycheck be applied towards my student tuition?
Yes. Contact the Student Accounts Department.
What if I do not get a paycheck when I think I should have?
- Check the status of your online timesheet via 1600grand. The timesheet should be completed and approved by the deadline. If it isn't, you missed the payroll run and need to submit hours for the next payrol run.
- Second, check in your SPO
