What our Philosophy Professors have been doing this summer(2009):
Diane P. Michelfelder delivered two keynote addresses. In June, she spoke on “Engineering and the Liberal Arts: Toward Academic Cosmopolitanism” at the second Symposium on Engineering and Liberal Education, hosted by Union College in Schenectady, New York. The symposium brought together humanities and engineering faculty from across the country to explore ways of integrating undergraduate engineering education with the liberal arts. Her address will be published in the symposium’s proceedings. In July, Diane gave the presidential address at the biennial meeting of the Society for Philosophy and Technology, held at the University of Twente in The Netherlands. Diane’s talk, “The Philosophy of Technology and the Questions that Won’t Go Away: on Putting the “P” in NBIC,” highlighted the conference’s theme of “Converging Technologies, Changing Societies.”
