Digital Astronomy Center

Our Digital Astronomy Center is a computer lab that was designed specifically for research  in astrophysics and astronomy.  The lab includes a Sun Ultra Unix workstation which is home to software such as Image Reduction and Analysis Facility (IRAF), ATLAS9, and LINFOR and RATES.  The latter two are spectrum synthesis and NLTE programs written at Kiel Universitaets, Germany. The IRAF was written by astronomers and astrophysicists from the national Optical Astronomy Oberservatories and ATLAS9 by Robert Kurucz of Harvard.  The DAC is thus able to operate as an advanced research facility, preparing students for research and study beyond Macalester.
