Terahertz Lab

Terahertz (Thz) Lab is concerned with the interaction of light with matter at Thz (10^12 Hz) frequencies.  The lab's femtosecond laser system, Fourier Transform Spectrometer, optical cmostat and superconducting magnet support the study of light spectra that is produced when matter either interacts with or emits electromagnetic radiation. The lab's visible, infrared and far-infrared lasers, a Fourier transform infrared spectrometer, and a liquid helium cryostat that supports optical studies of semiconductors and semiconductor quantum wells at low temperatures and high magnetic fields compose Macalester's equipment which assists students in the study of quantization of quantum oscillators, angular momentum, and much more!
