Adrienne Christiansen is Associate Professor of Political Science and the new Director of the Center for Scholarship and Teaching. The CST coordinates faculty development opportunities at Macalester by helping faculty to develop and grow as teachers, scholars, advisers and leaders.  Christiansen received her M.A. from the University of Kansas and her Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota in Communication Studies.  In her scholarship, she is interested in the ways that language and symbols are utilized to contend with political crises, motivate citizen action, and manage resources.  Recently, she has studied commemorative radio mixes in response to the attacks of  9/11, the rhetoric of political monuments in Cyprus, and editorial cartoon treatments of ex-Minnesota governor Jesse Ventura.  Professor Christiansen teaches courses on women's political rhetoric, rhetoric of campaigns and elections, and cyberpolitics.
