Julie Dolan joined the Macalester faculty in the fall of 2001. Beforearriving at Macalester, she taught at Virginia Commonwealth University and Shippensburg University. She received her BA in Political Science from St. Olaf College and received her PhD in Political Science from American University. She has received numerous awards for her scholarship, including the Erika Fairchild Award from the Southern Political Science Association, the Rita Mae Kelly Distinguished Research Award from the American Society for Public Administration, and the Best Dissertation Award from the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration (NASPAA). She has published articles in a variety of journals, including PS: Political Science and Politics, Public Administration Review, the Journal of Public Administration Research and Theory, Women & Politics, and the Harvard International Journal of Press/Politics. Her other publications include Women and Politics: Paths to Power and Political Influence (co-authored with Melissa Deckman (Washington College) and Michele Swers (Georgetown University), Representative Bureaucracy: Classic Readings and Continuing Controversies (co-edited with David H. Rosenbloom, American University), and a series of simulation-based textbooks with Congressional Quarterly Press entitled Government in Action(co-authored with Marni Ezra of Hood College). She has also been a member of the Japanese American Women Political Scientists' Symposium (JAWS) since it's founding in 2000.
