Enhancing Internships at Macalester
In Spring 2006, the Provost convened a group of faculty, staff, and students
for the purpose of thinking strategically and collectively across curricular and
co-curricular lines about internship experiences at Macalester College. Specifically,
this working group is charged to:
- Develop a common language (shared concepts, etc) for talking about
"internships," broadly defined;
- Specify what the goals and purposes of internships should be at Macalester,
in light of the college's mission, the President's "Strategic Imperatives"
document, and any other relevant considerations;
- Assess the college's existing approach to internships, given these goals
and purposes;
- Develop recommendations for enhancing the quality of internships at
Macalester, paying attention to both the administrative and programmatic
dimensions of this issue.
The working group is led by Andrew Latham (Political Science; Associate
Dean, Institute for Global Citizenship) Other group members include:
- Ellen Guyer, Dean of Academic Programs
- Jonas Hiltrop, MCSG, chair, Academic Affairs Commission
- Becky Hoye, Chemistry; Co-Director, Office for Research and Experiential Learning
