Tenure Track Faculty Positions 2008-2009
Math/Computer Science
Macalester College invites applications for a tenure-track position in Computer Science to begin fall 2008. Rank is open. Candidates must have completed a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related field by the time of appointment. Preference will be given to applicants who can demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching across the computer science curriculum at the undergraduate level, who can develop a vigorous research program that involves undergraduates, and who can contribute to the broader intellectual life of the College. We seek a candidate with expertise in an area of computer science that complements current faculty interests. This includes, but is not limited to, computer security, distributed systems, embedded systems, networks, ubiquitous computing, operating systems, or computer graphics.
The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science is the largest department at the college, both in terms of faculty and student enrollments. This year, more than 1,200 students registered for our courses. There are major and minor programs in mathematics, major and minor programs in computer science, and a minor in statistics. The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science values working closely with students on independent and research projects, has a history of national leadership in curriculum development, and encourages innovation in teaching at all levels.

Application materials should include a resume, a statement of research interests, and a statement of teaching interests and philosophy. Applicants should arrange for three letters of reference to be submitted, online or through the mail. Evaluation of applications will begin January 1, 2008 and continue until the position is filled.
