Hispanic and Latin American Studies
Latin American Brazilian Specialist
The Department of Hispanic and Latin American Studies at Macalester College is seeking to fill a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level beginning in September 2008. We seek candidates specializing in Latin America with a primary focus on Brazil. The successful candidate will have primary responsibility for the Department’s Portuguese language program, as well as the ability to teach Spanish language courses. Candidates should have extensive training in areas such as art, music, literature, history, sociology, media studies, or cultural studies. It is expected that the successful candidate will forge connections to the Latin American Studies program and to other departments and/or programs. The most qualified candidates will have experience in college or university teaching. Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching a full range of courses in our Spanish and Portuguese language programs as well as courses in the area of specialization. Candidates for the position must have native or near-native ability in Portuguese and Spanish. PhD required by time of appointment. Spanish Linguistics/Philology

We seek candidates specializing in Linguistics/Philology to teach undergraduate courses in Hispanic Linguistics—including but not limited to: Introduction to Hispanic Linguistics, History of the Language, and Spanish Dialectology—from both a diachronic as well as a synchronic perspective. It is expected that the successful candidate will forge curricular links to other departments and programs, such as Linguistics, Psychology, and Educational Studies. The most qualified candidates will have experience in college or university teaching. Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching a full range of courses in our Spanish language program, as well as courses in the area of specialization.
