Media and Cultural Studies
The Media and Cultural Studies Department at Macalester College invites applications for a tenure-track professor, rank open, to begin Fall 2013. The ideal candidate is a scholar of the moving image, who has an understanding of film and its transformation as it has moved into different platforms (including video and digital media). The candidate should also have the ability to integrate some aspects of creative practice into his or her teaching.
An understanding of film history and of the formal analysis of film is also important, as is the ability to analyze moving images in ways that engage issues of social power and difference. Candidates trained in studies of moving images, across models and platforms (narrative, documentary, experimental, including analog and digital media) are encouraged to apply. We are especially interested in candidates who have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching in an environment that values creativity, internationalism and social justice. The position includes opportunities to cross-list with other departments. PhD or M.F.A. must be completed by August 2013. Candidates are encouraged to visit the MCS web site.
Electronic applications are required. For fullest consideration, send initial application, consisting of a detailed introductory letter and CV, to https://www.academicjobsonline.org. Applications received by October 30, 2012 will receive first consideration. Questions about the position may be addressed to search committee chair Leola Johnson (johnsonl1@macalester.edu).
