Technique Application
In our bodies, there are nearly 400 acupuncture points
along the body's fourteen major meridians, or energy carrying
channels. Health is simply a matter of balancing the life force,
"chi" (pronounced chee), which is said to move through
the meridians. The acupuncture needles are inserted, usually a
quarter of an inch, in these specific points. No pain is felt
when the thin, solid, stainless steel needle is inserted. The
acupuncturists twirls the needles clockwise and counterclockwise
to move the chi throughout the body. A feeling of deep heaviness
or numbness in the area may be experienced when the correct spot,
or the "ashi" point is stimulated. Ashi is Chinese for "Oh,
yes."
It is important to emphasize that there are usually no side effects
from acupuncture.
