Although there are different types and severities of dyslexia (as mentioned on the homepage), the common thread among all dyslexics lies in the area of self-esteem. Dealing with dyslexia is typically not without a lot of heartache, pain, and emotional trauma for both the child and their parents. There is a constant mental and emotional battle throughout childhood, adolescence, and adulthood to maintain a sense of self worth. Coming to terms with the dyslexic diagnosis, incorporating the proper treatment plan, experiencing academic successes, and moving about in society with relative ease are key components to creating a happy and successful life for someone with an SLD.
