Tacrine

Tacrine

Tacrine is a reversible inhibitor of acetylcholinesterase and has been approved in the United States and other countries as a mild treatment for Alzheimer's disease. It's structure is shown as the following:

In an open-label study, 28 subjects were tested for cognitive functions before and after the adminstration of tacrine. The study showed that, in more than half the cases, anxiety, hallucinations, and disruptive motor functions decreased.

(Christine et al, 1996)

Several other studies have been conducted with similar results.
