MAOIs: Introduction  Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors were among the first drugs widely used for the treatment of major depression. Their action helped
prove the monoamine hypothesis of depression. While they are a highly
effective treatment, dietary restrictions, overdose risks and
increasing specialization of chemical action in the newer
anti-depressants has relegated them to a last resort in the hierarchy
of pharmalogical treatments  |
