Goals of Narcolepsy Treatment

treatment

There are several different possibilities for successfully treating a person with narcolepsy. It must first be understood, however, that narcolepsy is a lifelong medical condition. There are no known "cures" for the narcolepsy itself, meaning that there is no known treatment that can permanently fix the underlying biological problems that cause the disorder.

The goals of treating a person with narcolepsy are:

1) To relieve the symptoms of the disorder that interfere with day-to-day functioning as much as possible
2) To reassure and inform the person with narcolepsy as well as his or her family

This section will provide an overview of several treatment options for narcolepsy that may help a person with narcolepsy to be able to perform in their lifestyle at an optimal level. Please note that while the information given is meant to be helpful and educational, it is not a substitute for recommendations from a trained medical professional, like your doctor.
